About Us

The Casa Heiwa and Angelina Mentorship Program (CHAMPs) strives to empower the youth of Echo Park in Los Angeles and within their community. We seek to provide support and guidance for secondary education as well as other opportunities in a safe environment in which both mentors and mentees can mutually learn and grow. The children we work with live in a government subsidized apartment complex and come from under-privileged backgrounds. Our goal is to expose them to new opportunities and encourage them to pursue secondary education. Through both tutoring and mentoring sites, CHAMPs is able to make a positive impact on these children’s lives and help them realize full potential.

Our mentoring sites take place on Saturday morning, where our team meets at De Neve Turnaround at 9 AM, and arrive before 10 AM. Before the start of each site, we prepare a nutritious breakfast for the youth and children. The day then begins with fun filled activities that both mentors and mentees enjoy. In addition to mentoring sites, CHAMPS mentors also support youth and children through providing academic support and tutoring on the weekdays.

Another fun activity that the children and youth look forward to is our quarterly field trips. Past field trips have included Dave and Busters, trips to museums, and also the Los Angeles Zoo.

Currently, we are seeking individuals who are passionate and motivated to join our team of directors for the 2022 – 2023 school year, if interested, please click the New Director Recruitment link of this website.
